Game of the Week: Week 5

Hello chic friends. Carly the intern is back just like Steph for another Game of the Week! In honor of Steph’s return, our GOTW is her game! Yay!

The #2 ranked Chicago Red Stars (7-3-4) will take the pitch against #6 ranked Orlando Pride (5-5-4) in Chicago at 3:30 ET on Saturday, July 22nd. The game will be broadcasted live on Lifetime!

Here at Sporting Chic, we are all seeing Steph with her humor, sass, snapbacks, and crop tops. With all that, we can’t forget that her Chicago Red Stars team has been very dominant in the league this season. With performances from her and her teammates like Alyssa Naeher, CP23 Christen Press, Julie “Ertz so good”, and Casey Short, it is no surprise you see Chicago so high on the NWSL rankings.

Chicago’s last meet up with Orlando was an intense match, but Chicago came out on top with a 1-0 win, thanks to four saves from Naeher and a goal by CP23. That matchup reflects the other two Chicago has had with Orlando since they joined the league last year, with Chicago always coming out on top with 1-0.

On Orlando’s side, they have recently seen the return of Alex Morgan from her European season, Brazilian legend Marta scoring tons of goals, and highlights from rookies like Rachel Hill. Additionally, Orlando has seen a great performance in the net from Aubrey Bledsoe while Ashlyn Harris has been out with injury. The Pride is really looking for a win this weekend for many reasons, but specifically to grab a higher rank in the NWSL Standings to later secure a spot in the NWSL Playoffs. With the NWSL championship being played in their home stadium, the challenge is on for the Pride.

This match, and many others during this NWSL weekend will show fans the skill that will be on display for the upcoming USWNT Tournament on Nations series. You can read through the roster here.

Take some time to watch these badasses kill it and inevitably make this 2 hour match the best part of your weekend. Get yourself in a chic game mode by filling up your Sporting Chic water bottles and reading through some of Steph’s articles. Maybe wear a Kristie-inspired outfit if you have the confidence you could pull it off half as well as she does? Making a healthy Sam-inspired drink would also be an appropriate move. Honestly, it's up to you. If you’re going to the game, keep your eye out for Steph’s mom Gina, because after this twitter drama even I’m a little curious if the feud will make an impact on their mother/daughter relationship.
