Game of the Week: Week 2

Game of the Week: NCAA Division 1 Girls Lacrosse Championship!

The Final Four games start on Friday, May 26th. Maryland and Penn State face off first at 5:00pm, followed by Boston College versus Navy at 7:30pm. These games will be broadcast on ESPN3. The winner of each game will meet in the Championship on Sunday, May 28th.

The title game will be played at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough Massachusetts, home of the Patriots and the New England Revolution. You can watch along with us on ESPN U and watchESPN.com!

The Maryland Terrapins (21-0) are undefeated and the top ranked team. Maryland has won the championship twice in recent years, in 2014 and 2015. Additionally, they won every year from 1995-2001 under Coach Cindy Timchal, who is now the coach of Navy as of 2007.

This will be Navy's first appearance in the final four, but certainly not their coach's. By beating the reining national champions, the UNC Tar Heels, they were able to advance to the Final Four. During the game, freshman Kelly Larkin scored 6 goals, tallying her total to 102 points. Kelly is the first freshman in school history to record more than 100 points in one year!

Penn State is returning for it's second year in a row in the final four. Maryland beat Penn State back in April with a score of 16-14. Maria Auth of Penn State had notably scored 4 goals including a game-tying rocket with only 5 minutes to go, but it wasn't enough for the Nittany Lions.

Boston College is also making it's first appearance ever in a women's lacrosse final four. Specifically, Boston's senior Kate Weeks was named Eagle of the Week at BC for her performance featuring 3 goals and 6 assists for her team.
