Yael Averbuch, a midfielder/defender for FC Kansas City, is one of the most technical soccer players in the NWSL. She recently launched a training app that provides weekly sessions aimed to improve technical ability on the ball. All three of us at Sporting Chic have been using it during our offseason training. Our favorite part about it is that it's creative and structured. Instead of heading to the field to aimlessly kick around, Techne provides us with timed, precise drills that are challenging and rewarding. The way that this app is set up is genius.
I was using the app in the alleyway behind my apartment in Boston just last week. I had found a very convenient spot, literally steps from my back door, and was hammering the ball repeatedly at the brick wall of my building. After 5 or 10 minutes, I was asked by a very disgruntled man to please "do that somewhere else." Haters, man.
Even if you don't play soccer, THIS IS FUN. If you're sick of running on the treadmill or going to spin class, Techne is a great way to keep your workouts interesting. For any soccer player, young or old, Techne will definitely help you improve your touch on the ball. We can't say enough good things about this app, but we decided that Yael probably could explain it a little better than us. Keep reading below for a message from Yael herself.
Hey everyone! If you're reading this we probably have at least one thing in common - I'm guessing you're an athlete. Whether you're a professional athlete, an aspiring one, or just enjoy an active lifestyle, I'm sure you've experienced the many amazing ways that sports can impact your life.
When I was 9 I had the dream of becoming a professional soccer player. I had no idea what that meant at the time, but now I'm entering my ninth professional season. My journey through soccer has taught me so much, not just about kicking a ball but about being confident, taking control of my development, and overcoming adversity. Possibly the single most important thing I did to allow me to play at the highest level was to spend hours and hours with the ball at my feet outside of my regular team training sessions and games.
I recently launched an app called Techne Futbol, which is my way of giving back all the wonderful lessons soccer has taught me. It's a Training System that teaches soccer technical skills, but more importantly, it teaches that through hard work, discipline, and focused training, you can achieve anything you set your mind to. I hope that you find the process of striving towards mastery as rewarding and empowering as I have!
